Module one takes your phone camera apart and explains what it's actually doing. We start by reframing the phone, not as a lesser camera but a different one, where a computer is making creative decisions before you've even pressed the shutter, then work through what's really on the back of your phone: your 1x, ultra-wide and telephoto lenses, and the truth about what happens when you zoom. From there we cover portrait mode and its failure modes, how your phone sees in the dark, and what it's actually doing when you're trying to capture a toddler at full speed in a dim room. We finish with resolution, file formats, and a dedicated reference guide for your specific phone, iPhone, Samsung or Pixel.

With the technical foundation in place, module two turns it into ten creative challenges built around what a phone camera does differently, or better, than your dedicated camera. You'll shoot documentary style at 1x, stretch your space with the ultra-wide, and get properly close with macro, then move into techniques that only exist on a phone: shooting from a weird angle, forced perspective, panorama, and using your front camera hands free. We finish with phone video, stabilisation and cinematic mode, and slow motion and hyperlapse, so you leave with a phone camera you actually know how to use.
