This is the main course we recommend to anyone who wants to learn about their camera and learn how to take better photos of their kids. If you were to do nothing else, but this, you'll already be 100% better photographer than when you started. It's designed especially with a parent in mind and filled to the brim with things that will make the most difference for anyone who wants beautiful, natural, memorable photos of their kids,
Focus on Childhood and Family Photography
Photographing landscapes is not the same as photographing a lightning fast toddler. Travel photography is not the same as photographing babies. They require different approaches, different application of photography skills and in many cases even different equipment.
What matters for family photography is SPEED - so you can quickly react to what's in front of you, STORYTELLING - so you capture meaningful moments, and being able to do it all in your NORMAL HOME ENVIRONMENT - not some perfectly lit studio.
In a documentary, story-driven family photography you don't have time to fumble with obscure camera settings, your subject is not likely to want to move for better light, and sometimes if you miss a moment - there is no doover, you need to catch it there and then.
NOT A GENERIC PHOTO COURSE
That's why this Fundamentals is emphatically NOT a generic photograhy course - everything inside is there because it relates to what we as parents photograph and how - all the examples, illustrations, all the practice exercises all relate to family photography.
Don't worry, you STILL get a very solid grounding in photography - we just prioritise what matters most to you as a parent photographer.

Frequently asked questions
For our Fundamentals course, you’ll be absolutely fine even if you’ve never picked up a camera before. If you have, but aren’t 100% comfortable with your settings, you’ll find the course will help you structure your knowledge and you will quite likely pick up a few new tricks as well.
No. The course is a part of our membership offerring - we can support you best in that way, ensure you have all necessary resources available to you and that you can connect with a likeminded peer group - all the things we KNOW to greatly increase your chances of actually completing the course, rather than just downloading and forgetting about it. But the membership doesn't tie you down - you can cancel anytime, even after 1 month if tthat's what you want.
- A camera with manual controls - get in touch if you’re not sure if yours is up to the job. These days, most cameras beyond the simplest of point-and-shoot ones ( does anyone even buy these anymore?) tend to do just that.
- Ability to spend approximately 2-4h per week ( not necessarily in one go) on your photography practice. We suggest spending at least 15min daily for best results
- Access to the internet ( that’s a given but we had to mention it )
- A child / children you can practice your photography on
You will have access to the self-paced version of the course immediately after you join as a member and log into our learning space. Beyond that, all our courses get regularily scheduled Live, instructor led runs. You can register for the upcoming one of those right after joining - we know this course to be the best place to start so we will prompt you to do this. This will give you direct access to the instructor, personal feedback on your images and all the advice you need to succeed.
