There’s summer, there’s the insta-perfect Summer, and then there’s the Real Summer.

I'll be the first to put my hand up -  in the past, when talking about photographing the summer, I would focus on that idyllic insta-perfect-summer - sun drenched, adventure-filled, lovely family summer where the ice cream is cheap and the children are grateful and happy. But try as you might, summer just never quite lives up to that hype.

Life isn't perfect, best laid plans fall apart, children get overwhelmed, overstimulated, out of their routines and then it rains. Of course it rains. It’s Britain after all. 

Not this year though. I mean it will still rain, that part is still true. But this year we’re taking a different approach to photographing summer. 

The New Summer Approach

We will still be capturing all the great iconic, summer stuff that we all love - the ice cream on the beach moments, jumping into the pool, picnic out in nature, but we’ll also be capturing the Real summer - the 'I’m bored/hungry/tired' summer, the 'sand in the shower' summer, the ‘are we nearly there yet’ summer, the sun cream faces and the inevitable rainy day play summer.

Let's do this together

If you’re up for it, let’s do this together. To get things going, we’ve enlisted our lovely community to help us create a unique Photo Bingo list that includes both the summer highlights and those real, unfiltered summer moments. And the community delivered. Let me tell you, I haven’t laughed so much in weeks. In fact we had so many brilliant suggestions that it was impossible to fit them all in. Here’s the Plan

We’ve put together a Bingo list with 20 summer highlight entries ( the Summer Reel)  and 20 Real Summer entries, plus 5 empty spaces on each side to add your own unique moments. If you need inspiration, check out the Bingo Inspiration List at the bottom of the page.
